1bigtrip is about fulfilling a dream, a big adventure, a world surf trip!

My name is Andrew, I'm a surfer from New Zealand and I've spent nearly every spare dollar I've ever earned to travel the world surfing! This time the adventure is more ambitious. My wife Anita and I are going to leave NZ and head to Indonesia, then we'll cross the Pacific to Mexico and go on through Central and South America to Europe. We intend to let it flow - surf hard, eat well, learn and take the time to soak up the colours, flavours and experiences. Connect with the cultures and make new friends. I'll keep this site updated with stories and photos of the trip. We are going to travel as eco friendly as possible and support the locals, stay at the places they run and share the abundance around!

Apart from having a huge amount of fun, I hope this trip will provide inspiration to go for your dreams too. If your inclined for some surf adventures of your own, Ill be constantly writing up travel information about special places we visit ie cool people to stay with, healthy food spots, waves you must surf etc. Keep an eye out for it here.

This is the path we intend to travel:

June 2007 - Indonesia
2 months exploring some of the surf around Lombok and Bali, learning some bahasa and immersing ourselves in the culture and the ocean.

Mexico & Central America
Next we'll make our way over the Pacific to Mexico. The plan is to slowly head through Central America and then South America, over 9 months or so. Wanna learn Spanish, and basically assault the senses with new smells, sights, flavours and experiences. Hot chocolates, smiling peoples, misty rainforests, long dusty bus rides, unique surf spots…..

South America
We’ll continue the journey through Peru and Chile, inhale the cool, thin, air of the mountains, experience the contrast of the desert meeting the ocean. In terms of surfing, it seems there is so much exploration to be done on this massive coast. Then it's over or through the Amazon and on to Brazil….

Europe
Well be departing the Americas at this point.I will truly be stoked and have a real sense that the universe is helping us. It will be time to head to Europe, and a different take on life. Sealed roads and comfort but still plenty to ignite the soul…fishing port towns, the volcanic canary islands, old ruins. Random little things are what I want to do I think, have an espresso in the best places of Italy, get lost in the hills of Switzerland! I'd love to pull open an old, heavy door in a little Portuguese coastal village, escape the stormy dark afternoon and drink good red wine by a fire, or have a chance surf in the meditteranean sea…
